It was supposed to be a routine scouting mission. It wasn't supposed to be dangerous. It was just supposed to be a routine scouting mission. It wasn't supposed to be dangerous. There wasn't supposed to be Akatsuki.
The thoughts pounded through Sineah's head and she knew he had already sensed her, though her chakra was hidden carefully and she had camouflaged herself as best she could.
But he had always been better than her. Even when they were children, though she doubted he could have ever been called a child.
She realized she was shaking. It doesn't matter if it was just supposed to be a routine scouting mission, that there wasn't supposed to be Akatsuki, she told herself, You have a team you're leading, and you can't let them die. You'll probably-- No, she cut herself off, You can't think that. Just hold him off, and make enough noise for Ryuhora, Dotaka, and Kenshira to escape.
She shook her head, I've already stalled for too long. Daisuke will get Dotaka and Kenshira outta here.
And with that thought, Sineah leapt towards Uchiha Itachi with Kagetora, her nodachi, out, ready to die at his hands for the sake of her team.
---------------------------------------
Ryuhora Daisuke lead what was left of his team, Dotaka Taki and Kenoshira Hitomi, two medics, towards Konoha at breakneak speeds, trying not to think of the woman that was team leader and should be doing this, not him. The woman that had stayed behind. The woman that was probably already dead.
No! He instinctually flinched away from that thought as tree branches flew underneath his feet, Sineah's not dead. She can't be dead.
<<Hurry up!>> he signed at the two medics that were starting to lag behind, <<We need to get to Konoha fast!>>
They sped up, and even though he could tell the pace he set for them was too fast, he didn't care.
Maybe, just maybe, if they got to Konoha fast enough, they could-- No, he corrected himself despairingly, that's a dumb thought. We're days away from Konoha.
As Daisuke gave up on the thought of Sineah ever being coming home alive, she took a great gasping breath, and woke up in a damp cave, miles away from him.
She hurt. There was pain all over, like a fire raging in her blood. Blinking a couple times, she wondered if this was what the afterlife was. A damp, stinking cave. She looked to her right, something that hurt do do, then looked to the left, and started.
A growl reverberated around the cave and she realized it was her.
One Uchiha Itachi, was just sitting there, staring at her with eyes of blood.

Dammit! she swore, narrowly dodging a flock of quickly moving shuriken. There was no sound, not even a light snap of a twig and her enemy was right in front of her, his arm pulled back and ready to fly into her.
She couldn't believe it. Her family was highest skilled clan in all of Sunagakure and Konohagakure but here she was, getting beaten. She couldn't move, unable to dodge the fit that came across her nose. A loud snap sounded throughout the clearing, her nose shattering on impact with her enemy's fist.
Pain bloomed and exploded all over her head, blood spattering the grass. Not even a chance to recover and already a foot was shoved into her stomach, launching her into the air a good twenty feet. She wasn't allowed the chance to feel the pain before another foot smacked right into her cheekbone, which in turn threw her into thick, leaf-less tree branch. A groan escaped her, and she felt herself plummeting to the ground.
For a split second, she could have sworn she saw her friend's partner leaping from tree to tree in urgency. But he blinked and the image was gone, pain finally flowering as she hit the dusty earth.
All she could do was lie there helplessly, her face most likely shattered and her collar bone broken in four places, kunai lodged deeply into her arms, ankle twisted around in an unsightly manner. The agony I it all was just too much. Layer upon layer of worsening pain piled up and crushed her with its unfathomable disgrace, burning her, choking her, bleeding her dry.
If her ears weren't bleeding heavily, she might've been able to hear the soft sound of approaching footsteps and if her body hadn't have reached its limit for pain tolerance, she might've been able to feel the round-house kick to the center of her back. But she couldn't. She couldn't hear, she couldn't feel. Her body was going numb with the sheer amount of pain she was already in. The blow only forced her into a black-out.
Yuki was defeated.

Daisuke wasn't aware at first that the two medics weren't with him anymore.
"Shit," he swore when he realized, frustrated at the whole fucking day and the fucking medics who fucking stopped and that fucking Sineah had to go be a fucking hero.
"Fuck!" he yelled, overcome by emotions, uncaring that he might be alerting enemy nins.
Panting and glaring at the foliage around him, he realized he kinda hated his life.
The last time one of members from his original genin team had died, it had been the chuunin exams, his name was Damaki Toro and it was a fucking worthless death. He didn't save them, he didn't alert them to a trap, he just died. They were all fighting another genin team and Toro had taken a kunai to the left eye.
He remembered it clearly...
"No!" he had heard Sineah yell...
Spinning around and hearing the thud of the body first...
Not feeling Toro's chakra anymore...
It had been the first time Daisuke had ever killed. Ibiki-sensei had always said that he was too soft-hearted to be a ninja, that he should be a medic instead.
But that day... That day he killed without regret.
Afterwards, he had broken down and nearly quite being a ninja, but it was Sineah who made him stay. He would just watch her train with more passion then ever before, he saw how determined she was to be strong enough to protect her loved ones.
And he was one of those people she was killing herself to be strong enough for.
He wanted to be worthy of that.
But she had passed and he hadn't, and she started training under a nodachi master, and he was still with Ibiki-sensei, and their team fell apart.
A flare of Kenoshira's chakra immediately got his attention, shaking him out of his thoughts.
Standing up, he bounced on the treebranch a couple times then turned around to retrieve the wayward medics.
Branches flashed under his feet and soon enough, he was there.
"Ryuhora-san!" Dotaka greeted him and rose to his feet.
He nodded in return then looked at the girl Kenoshira was working on. "Konoha?" he asked.
"Hai," Dotaka replied tersely, getting back down to his knees to assist Kenoshira.
Daisuke looked closer at the beat up and bloody kunoichi and gasped when he recognized her.
It was Yuki!

There was no light, not even a tiny dot, that shone for Yuki. All there really was was black darkness everywhere. For miles maybe. For days even. No light. Just darkness.
Pain was a recurring factor here. No bliss. Just pure, unfathomable agony ravaging every inch of her small body. No salvation in the darkness, only pain and black.
By now, she had gotten used to the constant barrage of needless pain, staring into the pitch darkness without so much as a groan. It was too dark to see, too far to touch, too painful to feel. She had never been in such a place before, defenseless and helpless like this. She let out a shaky sigh and continued staring.
She was weak.
How could she let that damned Uchiha defeat her? How could she allow for such violence to ensue, for him to break almost every inch of her? How could she not be able to fight back? Why didn't she? Why wouldn't she? What reasons could there possibly be to explain all this?
She was weak.

"You've been working on her for almost an hour now, but she hasn't woken up. Why?" Daisuke asked Dotaka.
Dotaka didn't look up from where he was working on Yuki, silent. Daisuke stared impatiently at the medic, then decided to repeat himself, "Why hasn't she woken up? You've been working--"
"I heard you the first time," Dotaka interrupted him, still not looking at him.
"Then why didn't you say anything?" Daisuke demanded, getting irritated at the medic.
Kenshira sighed and looked up from the green glow surrounding her hands and said to Daisuke, "She has a concussion," she looked sympathetically at the kunoichi's face, "She really took a beating."
"Ah," Daisuke said, understanding now. He looked around at the clearing they were in, taking in the markings of a fight, reconstructing it in his mind.
Broken tree branch. A body flying through the air... His eyes took in the size of the branch and the angle of the break and worked backwards, imagining the arch of the body's flight through the air.
He leaped up to the the tree where he estimated the flight to begin from. Kneeling down and brushing his fingers against the bark, he could feel the residual chakra. His fingers jerked back when he felt the nip of the leftover energy. Lightning type, he identified, Just like Sineah.
He winced at the thought of her. Even to think of her name hurt. He squeezed his eyes shut and took a shuddering breath when a memory of her clear laugh rang in his mind.
Standing up, he ran a gloved hand through his hair, trying to clear her from his head.
Time to activate his doujutsu. He shut his eyes and thought, Tiseruugan!
He opened his eyes and knew that there was a black line going from his pupil to the edge of his iris and two trails bleeding out into the green of his eyes.
He could see the entire fight now.
Trails of chakra lit up the air and he could see where they hung in time. One was like an electrical current twined with fire and one was like a static rainbow.
The electrical fire one had kicked the static rainbow's ass, though the rainbow had put up a fight. He could see the explosion of chakra that indicated jutsus and noticed the real world effects.
An explosion of red hung suspended in time and he could see the static rainbow leaping away like time lapse photography.
Done surveying the clearing, he deactivated his doujutsu and leaped back down to the medics.
"I have a pretty clear idea of what went down here," he told them.
"What happened?" asked Dotaka from where he was working on Yuki's head.
Daisuke pulled out a kunai and started spinning it on his index finger, looking off into the distance. "It started miles from here," he began, bringing the twirling kunai to an abrupt halt, and pointing it northwest, "Yuki ran. But the enemy nin caught up to her.
"The main fight began just north of this clearing," he gazed off into nothing, seeing the battle more than the clearing he was in, "Yuki leaped from on tree to another, throwing a volley of kunai, but he dodged it, well, I think other nin was a he, his chakra was masculine, and he came at her and somehow fried the tree she was on. Yuki started leaping from tree to tree as he chased her, but she was using ninja wire. Then, she leaped to the middle and he followed her but got temporarily trapped in the wire, which she electrified.
"However, he's a lightning type, so that did jack shit. He got outta there and they descended into hand to hand. That's where everything went wrong. If Yuki just kept her distance, she probably would have been okay, but the other nin was superior in close range," he ended.
"Sounds like some fight," Kenshira murmered from where she was working on Yuki.
"Yeah," Dotaka agreed.
Daisuke looked out at the clearing, the memory of the chakra trails hanging heavy in his mind and looked at the wounded kunoichi and said in a voice like a soft breeze, "Poor kid really got beat up."
Kenshira looked up to him with a bright smile, "But we were here so she'll be ok."
But not Sineah... A treacherous voice whispered in his head and he let out a broken, "Yeah..."
-----------------------------------------------
Itachi had spoken not a word, just staring at her.
"Will you stop that?!" Sineah demanded, unnerved with his constant gaze.
"You look different than I remember..." he said softly, his Akatsuki cloak rustling gently as he stood up. He commanded her, "Don't move, I will return soon."
Sineah was sastisfied to note the bloody gash in the side of his cloak.
She let herself remember the fight when his silent footsteps were gone.
She had leaped at him as fast as she could, Kagetora out, and had decapitated a log. Spinning around, she parried his kunai with Kagetora, sweeping her nodachi in a circle to gut the clan-killing bastard.
But Itachi evaded her strike and had jumped at superhuman speeds into a nearby tree.
Sineah sauntered forward, putting a swing into her hips, then leaped at him, Kagetora cackling with electricity. He dodged her and once more leaped to another tree.
It became a game of cat and mouse, her chasing and him evading.
Soon enough she got angry and shouted, "Goddamnit, Itachi, just fight me!"
The words hung in the air. They were familiar between the two. When they had been children and he would spar with her, after not too long, she would shout those exact words, and he would stop holding back, and she would always loose.
It was the same this time around, too.

Yuki was defeated and broken to disrepair, she knew, but the battle was FAR from over.
She pushed through the darkness and slammed her broken hands onto the bloodied dirt where she lay and pushed herself up, screaming with determination at the pain. Her eyes flapped open and her brows furrowed, staring angrily at the ground below her.
People were close - very close. In fact, right next to her. They were medics. She didn't care. She didn't need them. All she needed was her enemy so she could beat his pathetic, cheating ass. She growled feverishly, finally coming up to a wobbly stand, the pain in her left ankle consistent to its breakage.
"Uchiha Sasuke!" she roared, crazed with a wild need to go animal on him and break him to bloody pieces. Of course, it wasn't likely. But it was always worth a shot.

"Woah, woah, woah!" Daisuke yelled when Yuki suddenly shot up, shouting about Uchiha Sasuke, pushing the medics aside.
He could see she wasn't in her right mind and shouted to Dotaka and Kenshira, "Get her down, get her down!"
They dogpiled Yuki and Kenshira shouted, "Tranquil Lotus!" and put her hands on Yuki's head.
"What did you just do?!" Daisuke demanded, noticing Yuki begining to calm down.
"It'll just calm her down! That's all! Just long enough to talk some sense into her!" Kenoshira explained frantically, "Come on, she's calm now, get off of her."

"Get off!" Yuki snapped, shoving the medics right off of her. They have set a jutsu on her, but that only worsened her mood. Slapping her hands together, she formed the right hand signs for her clan's signature jutsu. "Redemption."
All conscious thought was thrown out the window and all possibilities of her calming down were shot. A dismal frown spread across her face as her body started to change.
Lion's feet cracked through the skin of her normal human feet, a large crane's wing tore through the skin of her back, followed by a membranous bat wing, her nose grew into the about of a wolf's, her hair had lengthened and the ears of a rabbit sprouted from her head, her skin was replaced with snakeskin, her eyes glowed bright red, her torso thinned to the point her bones were VERY visible, and a long, crystalline dragon tail shot out from her tail bone.
She was completely dangerous and feral in this state.
Her red eyes were fixed on the Fire-natured chakra signature heading her way.

As Yuki transformed into her Redemption form, Daisuke swore and yelled to the medics, "Back off! Retreat!"
They all leaped to the taller branches of the trees, and Kenshira looked at Daisuke concernedly, "Do you sense that?" she asked him.
"Yeah," He nodded, "It's the same chakra signature that Yuki had fought before," he paused, "I think she'll do better this time around, I think, in her Redemption form."
"Redemption form?" Dotaka asked from a tree to Daisuke's left.
"What she's in right now," He nodded down to the clearing where they had left Yuki, "Si-" his voice cracked and he cleared his throat while blinking, "Sineah told me about it. She said Yuki is extremely dangerous in this form."

Yuki's hands - a massive bear paw and an equally massive tiger paw - curved into stiff balls, her anger clear throughout every niche of her breaking body.
Uchiha's signature was moving quickly, nearing the edge of the clearing. A sick grin pulled up Yuki's wolfish lips and she let out a loud roar similar to that of finding metal and a lion's roar. Her body was in prime condition to take down the pathetic boy that now flit in front of her large form, his signature smirk painted on his face.
Oh how that smirk pissed her off.
Lightening crackled around her claws, pairing up with crystalline elements and fire. Her paws twitched and in the blink of an eye, she tore through the air and landed an electrifying blow to the Uchiha's torso, poisonous breath seething from her nostrils and opened mouth. The boy was defenseless.
He deserved it.
She picked him up with her electric claws and flapped her large wings, launching herself into the air. She glared maliciously at her ex-teammate, her reddened slit eyes full of a blood-thirty vengeance. If her was going to be kicked, so was his.
Breathing her noxious breath in his face, she grinned with cruel content as he coughed and turned a vile shade of green. He slumped in her grip. She threw him up above and when his body turned over and made its return trip, she lashed her electric claws out at him, his body shaking and an awful scream erupting from his mouth, blood souring all over Yuki's malformed animalistic body.
[Easily the gayest fight scene I have ever written.]
