It's been a year since he lost his twin sister to the darkness, to the temptation of the evil lurking around every corner. It's been a year since that dreadful fight between the Heartless and the man parading around as Ansem. He let out a cold sigh, running a hand through his messy blond hair and opening his eyes again. It's only been a year. The sadness racking his body wasn't slight by any means, though he wished it were with all his heart. His sister had fallen. She was taken by the tendrils of darkness stretching out towards every heart, captivated by its devilish allure, stolen. She was lead astray from the golden light of the good, lead right into the pit of despair. Poisoned. Alsa was no more. Alsa had been blackened. Avery was sure she was still in there somewhere. A brown-haired boy was sure to tell him that in his travels. Whenever he saw Sora, the boy would explain to him in kind words that Alsa wasn't forever dark, that she was still in there somewhere, and that all it took to get her back was finding her and reminding her of all that they had been through. He told Avery that Alsa would return then. With a warm smile, Sora would pat his shoulder and disappear into another section of whatever world they so happened to be on. Given the boy's confidence while he looked for his own missing friends, Avery mulled the idea that Alsa could be saved around in his head. He loved her dearly, his twin. The sun was now tipping over the highest gate in the garden, warm light splattering the flowers and the trees with radiant golds. The light was a bit much for Avery. After all, it didn't hesitate to file into his stormy eyes. A small, sad smile stretched across his typically dismal face and he turned his back on the light, his eyes leveling with the most intense set of catty blue-green eyes he'd ever seen. Briefly, the thought of Faunus standing there behind him the whole time bothered him. But he shrugged it off. He probably worried about him. "Avery," the older silver-haired boy growled, leather-clad body tense with irritation. "Faunus... What do you need?" he questioned, quirking his eyebrow slightly. "We have work to do. Vassal sent me to get you," Faunus snapped, whirling around on his heel and stomping forward towards the staircase leading further into the garden. "How can you be standing here like a lazy lump on a damn log when the Heartless are--" Avery was quick to catch up to his friend when that little word spilled from his mouth. Hesitation was all but gone, as well as thought, and concern filled the void. "Heartless are here? And you left Vash to take care of it by HERSELF?" Faunus shot him an angry glare. "Cloud, Tifa, and Leon are with her. Yuffie and Cid are on their way - like WE are." The blond of the two paused for a moment, following along at a quick pace. "All of them are pretty strong, so I guess it was an... okay call to leave Vash." "Yeah, yeah, yeah, shut up." The two boys continued on down another flight of stairs leading to the plaza on the other side of the garden. Step after step they became more frantic and hurried, skipping steps and making a break for it through the panicked center of the plaza, feet hitting grey cobblestones with growing desperation.
