It's important for it all to be kept in check and used properly so as to make the reading experience more fluid and clear. It's okay to slip-up occasionally, but not throughout your ENTIRE piece of writing. An error or two won't earn you a warning. However, twelve or more in a single post will. PLEASE RUN YOUR WRITING THROUGH A SPELL-CHECKER. Diction A wide variety in word choice is important when describing an action, object, person, or setting. It makes it all the more easier to visualize the action, person, place, or thing. We don't mind if you need to look up words or take a long time in typing up a reply or post because you need to look up words. We all do it too. Just use each word you find PROPERLY and know the difference between words like IT, ITS, and IT'S, THEIR, THEY'RE, and THERE, HERE and HEAR, FOR, FORE, and FOUR, etc. Formatting Paragraphs are used to help format your writing and indicate dialogue or a new set of details. Be sure to ONLY indent and make paragraphs when you're going to do this. Also, ABSOLUTELY NO sticky caps (bLaH bLaH bLaH), no text language (k, thx, ily, y, ttyl), and no all caps (BLAH BLAH BLAH). Each of those three no-no's listed are only for when you're chatting. There is ONE exception. You can use all caps for emphasis but you can't use it on whole sentences and it CAN NOT be a replacement for bold or italics. Once or twice per post is reasonable enough. Frowned Upon No one likes a Mary Sue, male or female. No one. Do NOT make your character a god or a sexy beast with all the powers in the universe or a hot mama designed to be the perfect girl. Do NOT. It's annoying. You can't have EVERY man/woman in the role play, fanfiction, or books you are writing fawning after your character. Ever. Unless your story falls under the genre of HAREM. But your harem idea must be approved of by an administrator. Also Frowned Upon… It's perfectly okay to have these things in your writing, but please don't go too deeply into detail about things such as rape, child molestation, or any other kind of sexually offensive material. Spare us from the trauma. If you are going to detail-up the dirty post, notify an administrator. We will be sure to give a heads-up to any readers/writers under the age of fifteen. We can't have trauma befall the children, now, can we? Summaries Please give us a brief summary of you writings. It doesn't have to be terribly detailed, but it has to have enough detail in it for us to be able to get a slight feel for what's going on. Post away! [/style] |
